Every year hundreds an thousands of bikers gather at the Roxarena in Roxana , Illinois to pray an observe the deaths of their fellow bikers from the previous years.
They also take a moment to bless the bikes in hopes that a safe season of riding comes to those in the next year until the next biker blessing.
It WAS CONCEIVED AT A CHILI COOK-OFF IN LATE 2006, WAS PLANNED AND BUILT IN 2007, AND DEDICATED IN MARCH 2008. EVERY MARCH ALL THE CLUBS GATHER THERE FOR A “REDEDICATION” OF NEW MEMORIAL BRICKS.
There were 12 Clubs in the beginning an now over the years it has progressed an grown into 21 clubs an organizations filled with people of all walks of life an ages ranging from young to old.
The Organization welcomes new participating/voting members , they even have a section for independent riders so no one feels left out.
The only rule for having a brick for The only Bikers memorial and blessing in the midwest is that the person had to be a true biker an is proven deceased.
The event does offer free popcorn and other food variations each year, As well as "year" patches to show each year you have visited the memorial. The organization also sells other patches for a very low cost as well.
The event truly inspires riders each year to be safe an watch out for each others safety while riding in the coming year.
